Recovery from a crisis, such as the current Covid 19 pandemic, provides an opportunity to approach the recovery planning in a way that improves both equity and resiliency in the community to be better prepared for future crises.  The economy and society are continually evolving.  The recovery efforts provide an opportunity to position your community to leverage emerging paradigms and end up better off than before the pandemic started.

  • Develop strategies that address the inequities and better prepares under-represented communities from future crises

  • Identify physical and social infrastructure that would help community members be better supported in a future crisis.

  • Evaluate the local job market with a focus on emerging job sectors and design job training and business development to be prepared as those jobs are created

  • Work with local educational and training institutions to match skill development opportunities to emerging jobs

  • Work with existing, and assist with new, local businesses to understand the opportunities that are arising in their industries

  • Identify and take steps to increase the resiliency of infrastructure and service delivery of the jurisdiction

  • Update or create a new All Hazards Mitigation Plan to leverage financial support for improvements to increase hazard resiliency

  • Document and quantify social resiliency resources, identify gaps, and create a plan to expand or create new resources with leadership from the communities with the greatest need
