  • It may be necessary to frame the focus of the outreach to align to align with those service organizations in order for them to feel it is appropriate to use their time and resources within their organization's mandate

  • Some communities are placing free internet service connections in vans parked in under-served neighborhoods for ongoing connection

  • To get input on plans for recovery, it may be necessary to lend devices to community members so they can participate from home

  • It may be necessary to provide multi-lingual as well as picture-based instructions to overcome language and literacy barriers.

  • Effective outreach develops leaders from marginalized communities that can bridge cultural, communication, and trust divides

  • There is a role fro providing stipends to those leaders to respect the time they are providing

Achieving equitable outreach that truly empowers people in under-represented communities is challenging during the best of times.  Lack of internet access, computers, and unfamiliarity with technology makes that even more difficult when it isn't safe to have public meetings in person.  However, it is important to move forward with actions that help our communities recover and it is equally important that marginalized communities are included in what those actions are going to be.
